My Concert Year

23 06 2009

I have attended a great many concerts, but 1993 seems to have been a banner year for that sort of thing. Enough so that I wrote out a list for posterity.

Some of these are (were) local bands native to the Chicago scene.

John Mayall (twice)
America
Bo Diddley
Santana
Bob Dylan
Wailing Souls
Edgar Winter
Badfinger (what little remained of them, anyway)
Country Joe MacDonald
Chicago (without Peter Cetera)
Paul Rodgers
Steve Miller
Don Henley
Glenn Frey/Joe Walsh
Tina Turner
Lindsay Buckingham
The Sand Rubies
The Tragically Hip
Little Feat
The Connells
Steely Dan
Spencer Davis
The Kingsnakes
Billy Branch and the Sons of the Blues
Cathy Richardson (twice)
Peter Gabriel with Sinead O’Connor
L Shankar
The Terem Quartet
James (before “Laid”)
Jah Wobble
Stereo MCs
Inner Circle
Crowded House
The Allman Brothers Band
Albert Collins
The Kinsey Report
Lynyrd Skynyrd (or what was left of them that year)
Poison
Damn Yankees
Firehouse
Enuff Z’Nuff
The Toots Thielemann Brasil Project (With Eliane Elias, Ivan Lins, Oscar Castro-Neves, Dori Caymmi)
Robbie Krieger (from The Doors)
Stephen Stills
The Blues Torpedos
Byther Smith (lots of times)
Ronnie Baker Brooks
Lonnie Brooks
Tinsley Ellis
William Clarke
Civic Orchestra of Chicago
1993 Chicago Blues Fest
Bad Jack
Class Act
The Blast
Vic Ferrari Band
Renegade (I assume a Styx tribute band)
Steve Freund Trio
The Drummers of Burundi
PM Dawn
Face Value (Genesis Tribute starring a Phil Collins look-alike)
Eliminator (ZZ Top tribute band – a few times I’m sure as I knew the bassist)
Crack’d Actor
In the Flesh? (Same band as above, but their Pink Floyd tribute was outstanding)
Greg Pasenko Band
The Matz Broz
Bermans & Arrivals
Steve Howe (from Yes, among other things)

That was just one year. The 1990s were rather prolific for me concert-wise, that is, as an audience member.

I don’t miss any of it.

I’ll explain why in a forthcoming post.
